We are glad you are here.
Authentic.
Our names are Gabe and Kayla Jennings, and we own Jennings Ventures Cattle Company. Our Angus and Red Angus seedstock cattle business is based in the Texas Hill Country. We have been raising registered Angus and Red Angus cattle since 2016.
We are striving to raise a family centered around Jesus. We feel blessed to be able to show stewardship for God's creation to our kids each day in an authentic way.
That mentality flows over into our customer service. We have been blessed to do business with others who value Christ and long-term relationships. We hope to follow their example in how we conduct ourselves in maintaining current customers and developing more. To ensure this is a lasting endeavor, we aim to identify maternal cattle with growth and carcass traits to sustainably feed God's people.
Our bulls are primarily marketed through our cooperator partnership with R.A. Brown Ranch in Throckmorton, Texas. We have marketed their female contemporaries through private treaty opportunities, through the R.A. Brown Ranch Annual Sales and through an online sale. We are in our second year hosting the Focus on the Future Online Red Angus Production Sale along with fellow, like-minded ranchers in our state.
In addition to the registered herd, we have recently launched Jennings Ventures Beef. Our passion for the beef industry and gathering people around a table made this a natural step to stock our products in a local store front.
Sensible.
We currently operate in Mason County primarily on native pasture. Some of our ground is family-owned, but the majority is lease country. We aim to step back periodically to ensure our management decisions make sense for our business, the land, and our customers.
To fit our environment, we strive to produce sensibly sized, feed-efficient, maternally focused cattle. Efficiency isn’t just measured at a feed bunk on our operation. Individual cow performance and reproductive records allows us to make sound decisions regarding herd expansion. Fleshing ability on pasture is paramount to breed back on time and have a calf each year. Structural correctness is an additional focus as we watch our cattle graze across diverse soil types; most containing rocks.
The second part of the equation is natural resources management. We evaluate and rotate through our pastures strategically to maximize forage use and promote soil health for long-term sustainability.
Balanced.
For us, using the information available in today’s cattle industry through expected progeny differences alongside what we physically see happening in the pasture ensures a balanced approach to mating decisions and future generations. We approach breeding season with the mentality of combining the best traits of our cow herd with industry-leading sires to create the most balanced offspring possible. Our common-sense approach to EPDs may lead to fewer cattle ranking in the top 1% for individual traits, but more ranking in the upper echelon for all traits simultaneously.
To that end, we use artificial insemination and embryo transfer technology to ensure we are using the best genetics Angus and Red Angus has to offer in our spring and fall calving groups. To enhance our knowledge of genetic performance within our herd, we collect birthweights, weaning weights, yearling weights, and a DNA sample to submit to the respective breed association for genomic-enhanced EPDs.
